Card Sets:
What?- Additional card sets (bonus when several specific cards are used in conjunction).

Why?- I’ve played RO for several years on various different servers and always thought there was so much more potential in Gravity’s card system. A vast majority of cards on RRO have no or little use due to being obsolete by other gear or cards. Due to Gravity’s design there is an overlap for a huge majority of cards, so that only the best respective cards ever sees use (demonstrated in the economy where most cards do not sell for over 1 million, while a select few are worth 5-10x as much). With many players well over level 100, there is usually no reason to bother with the low level mob cards that tend to have inferior bonuses to other cards with better effects.

How?
- The implementation of new sets opens the door to endless possibilities for deepening game play, enhancing the economy, and creating flexibility for new builds in RO. My vision for the new sets includes:

-monster specific themes (ex. Thief bug set, skeleton set, dragon set)
-elemental specific themes (ex. Fire set, holy set, ghost set)
-class specific themes (There are no transcended specific sets yet)
-bonus specific themes (ex. Crit cards, flee cards, stat increasing, status inflicting)
-MvP included sets (Some MvP cards are almost useless, this can set that straight)

The objective of these sets is for them to be useful enough that players have an application and reason to buy/trade them, not to compromise the use of the currently useful cards. Ideally the set bonuses will both complement and compete with the other equipment and cards, and ultimately allow for more options for people overall. I fully intend to do researching on other cards and equipment before proposing any sort of sets to avoid any imbalances. I would hope the RRO community would be involved in proposing card themes and novel/fun effects that they might give as well, if this idea seems appealing.

I believe this feature has the potential to drastically improve on the depth and enjoyment of Ragnarok Revolution, and give players more to work with (or work for). Feedback would be great, but before closing let me give two examples of what a set might look like. Again the following is just a demo, not an actual proposition but hopefully it gets the idea across.

[Whirlwind Combo]
Breeze Card: (Weapon)
Joker Card: (Accessory)
Wind Ghost Card: (Accessory)
Blue Acidus Card: (Head Gear)
Creamy Fear: (Armor)

{Effects}:
-Flee +20
-2% chance of casting level 1 Steal when attacking
-3% chance of casting level 5 Windwalk when hit
-ASPD +5%

*This is by no means a great example, but it demonstrates some points clearly enough. Some of the cards like the Breeze and Creamy Fear card are not bad per se, but generally see little use to the limited effectiveness of the status effects they inflict. The Blue Acidus and Joker card are very rarely used to my knowledge if at all (no one uses steal outside of thief class, and SP regeneration is a minimal concern), thus making great candidates to be included in a set.

*The selection of bonuses should fit the theme as well as also building on the effects of the cards themselves. While no one would take time to actually use the steal skill outside thief, they might enjoy having it happen while they fight. An increased attack speed will allow the effects of External Bleeding (Breeze), and Jupitel Thunder (Wind Ghost), and Steal to trigger more often. The Windwalk and flee seem to fit the theme well, and would round out a fun and useful set.

[Champion Set]
Chung E Card (Garment)
Muscipular Card (Shield)
Killer Mantis Card (Armor)
Mantis Card (Accessory)
Wootan Fighter Card (Headgear)

{Effects}:
-Critical +5
-Lucky Dodge +10
-5% chance of casting dangerous Soul Collection when attacking
-1% chance of casting (countering) with Level 5 Palm Push Strike when attacked
-Cast current skill level of Heal and Agility Up rather than level 1.

-*Champ Only*- Increases combo skill damage by 15%*

*Most of these cards were selected due to a martial artist theme, with the exception of the Muscipular Card which I thought would grant survivability that a combo Champion might need. Two of the cards give strength boosts while the Chung-E’s increase in luck should benefit an auto-attacking Champion. While the set can be used by other classes, the primary benefit of Soul Spheres is for Asura (which this set is not meant for), and combos. While the trouble of casting Soul Collection isn’t huge, it would be very useful for a Champion to auto-attack and start combos as soon as the Soul Spheres procure much like the Ifrit Ring set does. Hopefully with this we will see more Combo champions and give some alternatives to using Asura or Occult/Finger offensive.

Alright, thanks for reading! Please give me feedback on the idea of set cards themselves. The examples above were just to give examples of how we might see novel builds and encourage the use of different builds. I believe there may be sets that require both equipment ALONG with cards to complete the set. If this is so it opens all the more avenues for us to work with.
cabbage
already a champ combo... Like the ideas, they are not too Over powered. thumbsup.gif

Hmmm I would definitely support this idea if it were card sets for the most worthless cards (such as Marin card). It would help to find some usefulness for those cards. But I always wanted an OCA Trader NPC to trade cards into. Like 30 cards for 1 OCA.
cabbage
the OCA trader is a nice idea but it should be 30 different cards seeing Most people have about 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999 kasa cards.

and alot of sins i know have 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999
99999999999 venatu cards.

yeah many of the sets would certainly include the low level, currently useless cards as you mentioned. Sadly, I can't help but feel some of the current card sets are incredibly useless like the Bongun, Munak, Hyegun set...so hopefully we can make even the low level sets have a little more use.
matmin
i agree with the card set ideas. it would give more opportunity for merchant to sell their card and it will increase the economy
Balmung of Azure Sky
Very good idea, but may I make a suggestion for a card set? 0.o
Maybe a card set that would enable the LK berserk skill?

Berserker Set:
Atroce Card: (semi-useless MVP card (I think 0.o))
+ maybe 5 other cards... 0.o i don't really know

effects would be:
-Enable Berserk Skill
-Crit rate - 15%
-5% chance to cause external bleeding to self (when attacking)
-1% chance to curse self (when attacking)
cabbage
or you could buy a lord knight card annoyed.gif

the problem is making these cards part of a combo would be altering the official item which in fact doesn't happen except for kiels, but that was a special occasion.
Balmung of Azure Sky
fine... but im poor T-T
and thats about impossible for me to kill... 0.o

...and it wouldn't take that long to change effects... rite? 0.o

Ah yeah I was tired when I posted. Balancing and other things sort of flew by me at that time, so I'll have to say I withdraw my support on this idea. But I still do want an "OCA Trader". I don't know about the being different cards part though. The thing was just to make worthless cards have some sort of use rather than sit in the storage. But now that I think about it, that would be quite an initial rush of OCA cards, so maybe instead be able to trade like 5 cards for an OPB and 1 card for an OBB. So an OPB/OBB trader.

@Balmung
Atroce card is already good as it is. It still has its uses. And even the idea of letting an MvP card get another MvP card ability on top of its own ability is sort of...uh...overpowered. And depending on how much the GMs like the idea along with how much time they have, it could take a short to very long time to implement an idea.
Balmung of Azure Sky
I just didn't know about Lord knight card T-T... sorry for being stoopid
Shade
I, too, would enjoy this concept. So many cards go unused because, lets face it, they probably suck. Even more cards go unused because they're unnecessary with such a high lvl cap. I think this would add more variety to card combos, and maybe divert people away from making the game so dominated by farmed MvP cards.
meesh
You make a great point Shade. On top of the high level cap, the majority of leveling is done from 125+ where no one needs to use the crap cards to level. While new card combos in no way will threaten the dominance of MVP cards, they should provide fun alternatives for players who can't spend 18 hours a day camping MVPs (which people actually do).

The argument that "we don't change cards" has been the main deterrent from seeing things like this get implemented but is faulty as donor items and the modified level cap already alter gravity's intended design. From my perspective it is actually far worse to leave a compromised system where 90% of cards are valueless.

I really like this idea, ONE problem, We would pretty much need a team of people to come up with effects, combos, and the like, then scrutinize there ideas for effects with either: the player base or the rest of the team,
We don't want these effects being overpowered, nor do we want people complaining,
I could add to this but I think Id be rambling
Shade
.....I could do it. <.<'' lol, I am a GM after all. I just wanna know whether this can be done or not, since I don't want to start working on it and then it not be a good idea all of a sudden.
Sketches
If we did do this idea, the card set users should understand that they may suddenly be nerfed or powered up out of nowhere; there is no way we're going to get the right balance on the first or second go, even after much discussion. So....if a GM wants to set this in motion, he or she should make a thread for card set ideas. We can definitely pump a lot of ideas out.

And yeah this idea can definitely be done. We just need to know whether the coders would be willing to write and implement the ideas we come up with and agree on.
meesh
Yeah what you guys are saying makes a lot sense. It'd be great if one of the GMs can run this idea by the rest of the GM team. Just as with the custom items, the GMs have total control over the sets and their effects since they are customs. Hopefully there will be less drama from set cards since credits aren't involved.

It'd be awesome to see the RRO community pool together and proofread ideas. By all means give more input and suggestions on the idea though (even if it is rambling!). The end goal is for us to improve on depth of RO and give people more things to do and try. =)

Well maybe if you had a team of current players helping you considering you haven't really played since the wipe and with the new rates/max level. I like the idea as long as a good group of people are working on them so nothing gets out of hand.
