Mac OS X Help Guide
These simple steps will help you get Ragnarok Revolution fully working on Mac OS X.

It's now possible to play Ragnarök Revolution Online natively under Mac OS X on Intel Architecture-based Macintosh computers using CrossOver Games!

All new Macs are based on the Intel Architecture. If you don't know which processor architecture your Mac is based on, you can ascertain this information by following the instructions in Apple support article HT1531.

Unresolved issues

   • Mac OS is occasionally crashed on MacBooks utilising the Intel GMA 950 graphics processor.
   • The client spontaneously freezes on some Macs.
   • The graphics are partially or completely distorted on some Macs.
   • Recent announcements aren't displayed by the updater.
   • It's not possible to sit or stand by pressing the insert key or take screen captures by pressing the print-screen key because Macs don't have either of these keys.
(You can sit and stand by entering the command ‘/sit’. You can map this command to a key combination from the window revealed by pressing alt-M)

The RRO client is not officially supported by CodeWeavers (the developers of CrossOver Games.

Instructions

Configuring your keyboard

Most of the function keys (the top row of keys prefixed with ‘F’) on portable Macs and newer Mac keyboards are mapped to special functions by default, such as adjusting the brightness of the display, which prevents them from being used to control applications, including the Ragnarök Revolution Online client.

You can hold the function key (which is labelled ‘Fn’ and is situated in either the bottom-left corner or directly below F13) while pressing the function keys to control applications normally, however this is inconvenient while playing games.

Therefore, before playing Ragnarök Revolution Online, you should invert the default behaviour of your function keys by ticking (checking) ‘use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys’ in the ‘keyboard’ tab of the Keyboard preference pane in System Preferences.

If you are using an older portable Mac or Mac keyboard, you should also modify your Exposé and Spaces mappings from the Exposé or Exposé and Spaces preference pane in System Preferences. I recommend the following mappings instead of the default:

Spaces

Overview: Command-F8

Exposé

Reveal all windows: Command-F9
Reveal all windows of the current application: Command-F10
Reveal desktop: Command-F11

Dashboard

Hide and reveal: Command-F12

Hold command while choosing a key to use it as a modifier.

Installing the full client

We currently recommend using version 7.1.1 of CrossOver Games because it has a higher compatibility with Ragnarök Revolution Online than the latest version, which was version 7.2.1 at the time this guide was last updated.

   1. Save the Windows library files mfc42.dll and msvcp60.dll locally.

   2. Download CrossOver Games by either registering to evaluate it or purchasing it.

   3. Copy CrossOver Games to your applications folder if you wish, then open CrossOver Games.

   4. From the main menu, choose ‘configure’, ‘manage bottles’.

   5. Press the add button under the list of bottles (it's labelled with an addition symbol).

   6. Name the bottle ‘RRO’, or something similarly descriptive, then press ‘create’.

   7. Open the ‘advanced’ tab, then press ‘open C: drive in Finder’.

   8. In the new Finder window which is opened, open the ‘windows’ folder, then move the two Windows library files you saved earlier (mfc42.dll and msvcp60.dll) to the ‘system32’ folder.

   9. Return to CrossOver Games, open the ‘applications’ tab, then press ‘install software’.

   10. In the new window which is opened, press ‘install unsupported software’, then ‘continue’.

   11. Ignoring the warning, choose to install into the bottle you created earlier, then press ‘continue’.

   12. Press ‘install’, then choose the installer for the RRO full client.

   13. Complete the installation process normally.

   14. Wait for CrossOver Games to finalise the installation, then press ‘finished’.

You can open the client from the ‘programs’ menu.

Running the client in full-screen mode

   1. From the main menu, choose ‘configure’, ‘manage bottles’.

   2. Select the bottle which contains your RRO installation from the list on the left.

   3. Open the ‘control panel’ tab.

   4. Select ‘winecfg’ from the list of applications, then press ‘launch selected item’.

   5. In the new window which is opened, press ‘add application’, then choose the file rroexe.exe, which is located in your base client folder. (The default path of the base client folder is C:\Program Files\Ragnarok Revolution).

   6. Open the ‘graphics’ tab.

   7. Tick (check) ‘emulate a virtual desktop’.

   8. Set the value of the ‘desktop size’ field to the video resolution you want the client to use.

If you don't know which video resolution to use, choose one of the video resolutions listed in the Display preference panel in System Preferences.

   9. Return to the ‘applications’ tab.

   10. Press ‘OK’.

   11. From the main menu, choose ‘programs’, RRO folder, ‘RRO Setup’.

   12. Tick (check) ‘full-screen mode’.

   13. Set the video resolution to the same resolution you specified in step 8.

   14. Press ‘OK’.

This should allow you to run Ragnarok Revolution Online on the Mac OS X operating system.
